On the first day of your 5-day trip to Morocco, our driver will meet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation, a riad in the medina. You’ll have the rest of the day to explore the city, one of Morocco’s imperial cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After check-in at the riad, a local guide will take you on a walking tour of the medina’s historical center. You’ll visit significant landmarks such as the Karaouine Mosque and University, which is one of the oldest in the world, as well as the Bou Inania and Cherratine Madrasahs, the Mausoleum of Moulay Idris, the Tanners’ Quarter, and the Mellah (Jewish quarter) or the Royal Palace, featuring the impressive Golden Gates. Finally, you’ll spend the night at the riad.
After having breakfast in the hotel, we will drive south to explore the Middle Atlas region. During the trip, we’ll experience natural contrasts from the cold Middle Atlas Mountains to the warm and vast desert sands. We’ll pass through the Azrou cedar forest to see the famous macaques and stop by Ifrane, also known as Moroccan Switzerland, to admire the lovely natural surroundings and classic Swiss-style buildings. We will pass by Tizi-N-Talghoumlt and ski slopes, cross the Middle Atlas, and visit the city of Midelt, known for its orchards. Then, we will travel deeper into the mountains to witness the Berber mountain communities’ way of life and reach the Todra Gorges by late afternoon. We will start our day with breakfast at the Riad in Todra Gorges. After breakfast, we’ll drive through some valleys of Touroug and Tinjdad to our first destination, Erfoud, known for its dinosaur fossils. Next, we’ll arrive at Merzouga, the southernmost point of our trip. Here, we’ll switch to dromedaries to explore the Erg Chebbi dunes and see a beautiful sunset. Finally, after a two-hour ride, we’ll reach our luxury camp in the desert, where we’ll have Berber tea and dinner. We will end our day with music and dance around the fire, enjoying the starry desert sky for a magical night in the Sahara.
We will wake up early in the desert to catch the beautiful sunrise. Then, we’ll ride camels to Merzouga, and our driver will take us on a tour of the Sahara region. Along the way, we’ll visit the Khamlia village to enjoy a traditional Gnawa music performance, an essential aspect of local culture. We’ll also see the Mifiss mines and Tissardmine Oasis, where we can learn about Kohl, a historical product of the area. Later, we’ll have lunch and meet some of the Berber people who live in the region to learn about their way of life. Finally, we’ll return to Merzouga and spend the night in a hotel near the erg Chebbi dunes.
On the last day, we will wake up early in the desert to see the sunrise, and after breakfast, we’ll ride camels to Merzouga. The return journey follows the same way as the first day with fewer stops, ensuring you arrive in the city by early afternoon. You can either fly home or explore Fes in the afternoon.
